Foreign Language Areas Studies (FLAS) Fellowship 2019 & 2020 at the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) hosted by the University of Wisconsin

During the summers of 2019 and 2020, I completed four semesters of Vietnamese at the Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. These courses included Intermediate Vietnamese I and II and Advanced Vietnamese I and II. SEASSI offers an intensive, eight-week Vietnamese language program focused on rapid language acquisition through classroom instruction and cultural immersion activities, providing students with a robust learning experience in Southeast Asian languages.

These courses and FLAS Fellowships were critical to my improvement in the Vietnamese language and helped facilitate my archival research in 2022 and 2023. After completing the Advanced Vietnamese II, I continued to take courses with my Vietnamese teacher at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, completing an additional two hundred hours of one-on-one instruction.
