National Archives II - College Park, MD
The National Archives at College Park, Maryland (also known as Archives II) houses a vast collection of federal records, including military, diplomatic, and intelligence documents, with extensive resources on U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. This archive is a key resource for scholars researching 20th-century U.S. history.
In December 2022, I received a Contemporary History Institute (CHI) grant to visit the archive, allowing me to further my research on the Vietnam War by accessing essential materials related to my dissertation.
Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Archive
The Lyndon Baines Johnson (LBJ) Presidential Library in Austin, Texas, houses a comprehensive collection of materials documenting LBJ’s presidency, including his work on civil rights, the Vietnam War, and the Great Society programs. The library offers extensive archival resources for researchers, including presidential documents, audio recordings, and photographs. The Moody Foundation awarded me a research grant, which enabled my visit to the LBJ Library in September 2024. The Vietnam Country Files housed in the archive provided valuable insights that greatly informed and enriched my dissertation research.
Richard Nixon Presidential Archive
The Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum in Yorba Linda, California, is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the 37th President of the United States, Richard Nixon. It houses a vast collection of documents, photographs, recordings, and artifacts related to Nixon’s presidency, from domestic policy to international relations, including significant materials on the Vietnam War and Cold War diplomacy. The library serves as a resource for researchers and offers exhibits and educational programs to the public.
Ohio University Archive
My university, Ohio University, also stores a collection of materials relating to international programs for teaching funded through the State Department. During the Vietnam War, Ohio University sent teachers to Vietnam to try and develop the Republic of Vietnam’s educational system.
